Although primarily civil engineers, Mole Group Ltd have continued to gain considerable recognition for CombiSave, their multi-saving innovation. The latest accolade is winning the Business Innovation Award at the North West Regional Construction Awards, a prestigious event which took place at Manchester’s Palace Hotel on 6th June.
“One of our key objectives this year is to raise the profile of Mole Group in the construction industry”, says Lisa Thomson, Director, “being shortlisted for this award was encouraging, winning it in front of 350 sector specialists was fantastic! “
Wirral based Mole Group Ltd are long established and well known locally. Many North West residents have used Mole’s home services division for their domestic water pipe replacement, or for a solution to land drainage problems. The company strategy however is to focus on its’ commercial capabilities of impact moling and directional drilling. As experts in trenchless underground installation their USP is their ability to carry out mid sized or difficult to access jobs that are too fiddly for big industrial drillers yet way too ambitious for small firms.
Underground installation of services such as network cabling, gas, electric, water has taken Mole’s teams nationwide to contracts at schools, hospitals, universities, business parks and factories. As well as drilling or moling for major construction companies other customers have included Tesco, Chester Zoo and BBC.
So where does CombiSave fit in? David Furlong, Director and founder of Mole Group invented the device 5 years ago to speed the delivery of hot water from domestic combination boilers. Along with his team, he has seen his innovation grow from simply a good idea through to production, and now valued customers include British Gas, Npower, and increasing branches of most plumbers merchants such as Plumbnation. The water and gas savings associated with the product make it relevant to anyone with a water meter and housing groups wanting to reduce carbon emissions while saving tenants money.
David says “We were told that it was the multiple benefits and the fact that CombiSave is truly innovative that won the judges over and we are now looking forward to the Constructing Excellence National Final later in the year.”
