Drainage Installation at New Build Site with Tree Protection Order

Bellmoor Construction were building 50 houses on a site formerly taken up with farm buildings.  Surface water issues required effective resolution in order to progress.  Water needed draining off to nearby brook, however the location included a tree protection order. This is when the local authority decrees that additional measures must be taken when designing and constructing buildings that are in the vicinity of trees.

The objective here was to resolve the drainage issue taking important environmental restrictions into account.  We installed 225mm diameter pipe from field to brook through heavily wooded area, carefully navigating the root protection area in the tree protection order by no dig technology.

The route was studied and planned according to client requirements and site location specifics.  30 metres of pipe was installed underground by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to a depth of 1.2m.  Mole Utilities used our environmentally sound ‘dry’ drill rig, meaning no fluids running into the brook.  This rig allows for accurate steering to necessary route and depth for pipe installation.

Trees remained healthy and undisturbed by the works and Bellmoor can carry on with the build without drainage concerns.  Sensitivity to the environment was key here in this beautiful part of the world.  This also took the accolade of being the muddiest location in anybody’s memory!
