Directional Drilling Specialists
HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) is a method of installing pipes, cables or conduits without digging trenches. Mole Utilities have been trenchless installer specialists since 1986. With 30 years of experience, we have successfully undertaken thousands of directional drilling projects over the years.
We can leverage horizontal drilling as a cutting-edge method to install cables and utilities with minimal disruption to surfaces and the environment, allowing for efficient installation in challenging terrains and obstacle-ridden areas.
Underground obstacles are no problem! Our rigs can maneuver over utilities causing no damage or disruption.

Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is a precision drilling technique that can be used for a range of underground installations. It is used when trenching or excavating is not practical, possible, or environmentally / economically viable. The drills are steerable, and surface launched and can create bores of up to 350mm over a distance of up to 300m depending on the condition.
Our drill rigs are capable of four-way dimensional steering, which allows our operators to pilot bore a pre-determined route and any corrections or changes to be made where necessary on the route. The bore is opened to the required size through an industry term called “back reaming”. Once completed, the product pipe is pulled back and ready for use.
