Duct Installation Under Railway at Peel Ports Liverpool

In October 2015 we were contacted by Peel Ports to assist with the installation of traffic signals for the freight trains and road vehicles at the entrance to the Peel Ports docks in Liverpool. The junction is extremely busy and had been looked after manually. The work included drilling under 2 railway sections to install ducts to carry cables for the new automated traffic management system.

Working on such a busy junction is extremely difficult and we resorted to working day and night to complete the project. Unable to obtain accurate utility plans, trail holes revealed oil pipes and cables that made the planned drill profile unachievable. Larger excavations were required to enable us to drill at a depth of around 2m to enable us to miss any utilities. We constructed larger concrete chambers to enable access for the installation of the cables.
